TWO TO THREE DAY TRIPS
The Seven Carries. This is a
historical route that explores seven to nine bodies of
water, connected by short portages. Plan three days to hike
up St. Regis Mountain.
Long Pond Mountain-Trip. Four to five ponds and a day hike up Long Pond Mountain. This triiip
lends itself well to set up base camp to explore from. There
is good trout and bass waters on this route. The mountain is
a trailess peak with spectacular views.
Axton to Raquette Falls. A nice river
trip. Paddle six miles up stream on calm waters to the
bs=ase of lower Raquette Falls. Nice camping by the river
will carry trail that leads up stream to the upper falls for
exploring. Wildlife frequentky sighted. The return trip by
canoe is six miles downstream to Axton Landing.
FOUR TO FIVE DAY TRIPS
Low Lakes. 25 to 30
mile, 2 portages. An easy paddle up the Bog River to Lows
Lake, an excellent place to base-camp and explore by foot or
canoe. Designated primitive campsites. Return via the same
route. Visit Grass Pond and a trailess hike up Grass Pound
Mountain. This is a nice family trip.
Long Lake to Tupper Lake or the
Saranacs. 45 miles 1-3 portages, two of the portages
over a mile long. A popular and relatively easy lake and
river trip. The Raquette RIver may be followed to Tupper
Lake or one may portage to Upper Saranac Lake.
